Tattoo Aftercare

Taking care of your new tattoo is crucial to proper healing and long-lasting results.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out via Instagram or email.

I’m always happy to help.

Healing Methods

You'll heal your tattoo using one of two methods, depending on what we’ve used during your appointment. Follow the instructions carefully to avoid complications.

Cling Film Method

Day 1 – The Day of Your Tattoo

Once home, remove the cling film and gently wash the tattoo with warm running water (a shower works best).

Pat dry with a clean kitchen roll or let air dry.

Before bed, wash and dry again.

If your tattoo has heavy blackwork or colour, re-wrap it in cling film overnight using clean film and tape.

Day 2

In the morning, wash, dry, and apply a tiny amount of aftercare.

I recommend Palmer’s Cocoa Butter (Original Formula).

Use just enough to slightly moisturise the skin, you should barely see it.

Repeat this routine before bed. You do not need to re-wrap the tattoo tonight.

Day 3 Onwards

Continue washing, drying, and applying aftercare twice daily until your tattoo is fully healed.

Second Skin Method

Days 1–4

You don’t need to do anything while the second skin is on.

Keep an eye out for:

- Red rash or irritation around the edges.

- Leaking fluid under the dressing.

- Holes or tears in the second skin.

If any of these occur, remove the dressing early and follow the Day 4 instructions below.

Day 4– Removing the Second Skin

Get in a warm shower and let water run over the dressing.

Find a corner and slowly peel it back, pulling gently along your skin, not away from it.

Once removed, rinse the area and gently wash off any residue.

Pat dry or let air dry.

Apply a thin layer of Palmer’s Cocoa Butter, just enough to moisturise the skin.

Before bed, wash again, dry, and reapply the cream.

Day 5 Onwards

Follow the wash, dry, moisturise routine morning and night until fully healed.

What to Expect During Healing

Days 1–3

Redness, warmth, and mild swelling are normal.

Days 4–10

You may notice light scabbing, flaking, and itchiness, don’t pick or scratch!

Day 5–14

Your tattoo may look dull or cloudy, this is part of healing and will clear up once your skin fully regenerates.

Please remember these are general timescales, everyone's body heals differently at different rates.

What to Avoid

- Do not scratch or pick at your tattoo.

- Avoid swimming, baths, hot tubs, saunas or submerging your tattoo for 2–3 weeks.Stay out of direct sunlight on the tattoo during healing.

- Avoid petroleum-based products, scented lotions, or anything with alcohol.

- Don’t let clothing rub tightly against the tattooed area.

Soap & Skincare Tips

If using soap, stick to mild, fragrance-free options such as Simple or Sanex Zero.

Rinse well and pat dry gently with clean kitchen roll or let air dry.
